Rebel City Distillery was founded in 2020 by husband-and-wife Robert and Bhagya alongside Robert’s father Brendan Barrett. Robert was born in Cork and Bhagya is from Kerala, India. Maharani Gin, our first release, celebrates a fusion of Cork and Keralite cultures.

Speaking about the pandemic in India, Rebel City Distillery’s Co-Founder, Bhagya Barrett said, “Our minds and hearts are with all the people suffering throughout my homeland. So far, the situation in Kerala is faring better than many other parts of India but my heart is breaking seeing the national death toll rise each day. We wanted to contribute in some small way and have decided to raffle a Maharani Gin Gift Box and a selection of Indian art.”

We choose to donate to the Red Cross, as they are working on the ground providing ambulance services, additional first aid, medical care and oxygen to some of the sickest people. As well as supporting the vaccination campaign.

Our prizes included a Maharani Gin signature gift box as well as Indian art and crafts. Entry was €15 and we raised €1370. We are blown away by your kindness. Thank you to every person who donated to this very worthy cause we know the last year has been very difficult for everyone.

The word ‘Maharani’, meaning Queen, is a tribute to revolutionary women everywhere. Our premium gin is zested with pomelo fruit, and uniquely spiced with cassia and nutmeg-mace, all sourced from a women’s organic farming co-operative in our co-founder, Bhagya’s, home state of Kerala, India. This heady combination results in a gin of truly transcendental taste, a liberation of spirit and spice.

Maharani is a multi-award-winning gin achieving four titles in its first year: Silver in The London Spirits Awards, bronze in the Craft Spirits Berlin, gold in The Gin Masters, and Bronze in the IWSC
